Library Talk: Historical Fiction & Family

Local author John Hamlin Gordon will talk about his writing and his family's history -- his great grandfather, Reverend John Ogden Gordon, came to Rensselaerville in the 1870s as a Presbyterian missionary and John now lives in Medusa.
John's first book, “Liberty’s Flight,” is a historical novel that starts with the Battle of Culloden in Scotland in 1745 and travels, along with the protagonist, to America, and is availble at our library!

Sarah Nelson has been studying, practicing, and teaching Yoga for 25 years. Come hear how attending a random Yoga class in her late twenties set Sarah onto a life path, and what the teachings have to offer us in the modern world."Yoga is not a religion, but it provides a spiritual path; it's not an exercise program, but it keeps your body healthy; it's not therapy, but it teaches you about yourself; it's not a moral code, but it guides your interactions with others; it's not Buddhism, but it's all about mindfulness." Author Talk: Helen Benedict and Sarah Van Arsdale
Authors Helen Benedict and Sarah Van Arsdale will talk about their work and give us a preview of their latest books.
Helen Benedict, a British-American professor at Columbia University, is the author of seven previous novels, six books of nonfiction, and a play. Her newest novel, "The Good Deed," came out in April 2024 from Red Hen Press.
Sarah Van Arsdale is a fiction writer, poet, and artist living in New York and Oaxaca, Mexico. Her seventh book, "Catch and Release," is a book-length poem about the human impact on the sea life in Mexico, levied by Van Arsdale’s watercolor illustrations. It will be available for pre-orders in May, 2024 from Finishing Line Press.
